19-year-old Karina Holmer was ecstatic when she won a $1500 lottery ticket where she lived in Sweden. She decided to use that money to move to the United States, where she secured a job as an au pair in Boston. As a new foreigner, Karina had already made lots of friends and spent most of her weekends partying. It was a Friday night on July 21, 1996, and Karina had gone to a nightclub with her friends where she became extremely inebriated. Unable to locate her friends, she stepped out of the club at about 3 AM. What happened to her next is still a mystery, as she was never seen alive again. Some witnesses claim to have seen her dancing and singing with a homeless man near the club. Others reportedly saw Karina enter various vehicles shortly after the club closed. Two days later, someone made a shocking discovery: the top half of Karina’s torso in a dumpster behind an apartment building. Her autopsy report revealed that she had been strangled and her body was sawed at the waist. Police interviewed multiple people who were in or around the night club on the night that Karina disappeared, but the mystery killer remains at large to this day. Karina’s lower half has never been found.
