Joshua Phillips, 31, was only 14 when he killed Maddie Clifton — first reportedly beating her with a bat, then stabbing her in the neck. Her body was found under his bed a week after she vanished. Phillips was sentenced to a life sentence without parole for the crime in 1999. But now Phillips, 31, will have his sentence reviewed because of a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that bans mandatory life sentences without the possibility of parole for teenagers.
