The wonders of The Great Outdoors took a dark turn for this pair of hikers who were brutally murdered on one of America’s most famous trails. Geoffrey Hood, 26, and Molly LaRue, 25, were hiking the Appalachian Trail in 1990 when they encountered wanted fugitive Paul David Crews.

On the run over accusations of a previous murder, Crews met the couple on Cove Mountain near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Harrowing police reports of the grisly double homicide say Hood’s body was found with three gunshot wounds while LaRue was bound, tortured and raped before she was fatally stabbed as many as eight times.
